On the morning of Monday, January 10, Equair inaugurated its operations in the midst of a festive atmosphere at the Quito airport, where it was announced, in the presence of government authorities, the airport and passengers, the start of its flights connecting Quito, Guayaquil and Galapagos.

Equair operates Boeing 737–700 aircraft, two of them named Condor and Albatros, in honor of two Ecuadorian representative birds.

The new airline operation will increase the offer of flights between these three important destinations in the country and will comply with a policy to offset its carbon footprint.

In the inaugural event, Gabriela Sommerfeld, CEO of Equair mentioned: “today is a great day! We are generating more jobs, greater investment and greater connectivity, which translates into greater competitiveness and powerful productive development ”.

On the other hand, Marcelo Cabrera, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, stated: "Today marks a milestone in commercial aviation. A new domestic airline resumes service for the benefit of the country. I want to wish them the best of success and we will do our best to support the new airline. "

Ramón Miró, president and CEO of Corporación Quiport, wished best of luck for the airline at the start of its operation, adding: “a new actor with new ideas is always a factor that stimulates competition for the benefit of the passenger and promotes increased use of air transport. At Quiport and at the airport, we join forces to shore up the tourist potential of the capital and Ecuador with first-rate services, agility in service, friendliness and efficiency. We hope that Equair will become a stimulating factor to expand the market and provide an improved connectivity offer for domestic travelers ”.

The Albatros aircraft left the Quito airport at 06:20 on flight HN1020 to Guayaquil, while Cóndor took off at 08:00 on the Guayaquil - Galapagos route. The two flights upon departure received a water salute to augur success for the new operations.
