- These spaces are for passengers traveling with their pets, with hygienic facilities for companion and service animals to stay hydrated and relieve themselves.
Mariscal Sucre Airport becomes the first airport in the country to have three pet relief spaces, which can be found in the outdoor area, domestic departures lounge and international departures lounge. Implemented by Corporación Quiport, these spaces will ensure a calm and comfortable experience for passengers who travel with service animals and pets (cats and dogs).
The Municipality of Quito, led by Mayor Jorge Yunda, works hard to make the city a place of harmonious coexistence with service animals and pets, and it encourages citizens to respect animals and the creation of spaces for their mutual benefit. As a result, three pet relief areas have been created for animals inside Quito Airport with waste receptacles, plastic bags, drinking water supply and water/sanitary facilities. Some 400 pets and service animals travel through Quito Airport each year.
“As those responsible for the administration of Mariscal Sucre Airport, we are always looking for opportunities to provide better services and to raise our standards of quality. We want to continue to lead the way and this is another step in our efforts to uphold an excellent service,” says Andrew O’Brian, President and CEO of Corporación Quiport.
Currently, only a few airports offer this type of space, including Miami International (MIA), Dulles International Airport, Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), Long Beach Airport (LGB), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Orlando International Airport (MCO), Louisville International Airport (SDF) and Monterrey International Airport. In this manner, Mariscal Sucre Airport continues to invest and provide services that are focused on the needs of its passengers, the city and the country.
